Gifts - What are you good at?

In my recent life season of being jobless due to being laid off, I realized I had the chance to change my career at that very moment in time or I could just go right back to what I know and what is comfortable. I know I have other talents inside of me and I know I had dreams long ago that I haven't seen come to fruition yet in my life. From the moment of getting the dreaded, “I’m sorry due to reducing our staff, we have decided to let you go" call, I started to seek and ask God to know what path was meant for me.

Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

About 3 weeks after the call and me seeking God, I had continued to do my bible study in Ephesians. One particular day while digging into Ephesians 4:11-12, it discussed how God equipped his people to spread the knowledge of his good works. So many people were gifted with spreading the love of God so that the body of Christ may be built up. Examples of spiritual gifts in Scripture was given and I was directed to read Romans 12:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28.

Once I read Romans 12:6-8, it was my eye opener and my "God whisper" on my next steps. It reminded me that I AM CAPABLE of using the gifts he gave me in my next chapter of life.

Romans 12:6-8 says:

6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;

7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;

8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Have you ever had that "ah ha" moment of saying out loud, okay God, I hear you?! That happened to me on this day! We are all meant to do good in this world. We have the opportunity to leave it better than how we left it. It is so incredible that God places us with gifts and speaks to us. In 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, it talks about the different types of gifts, services, works etc. that we have here on earth, but with each different type of gift, service or works, our God is always the same. God determines our gifts and distributes them. He always has the Glory even during our suffering seasons. In our suffering seasons, He takes us close to him and speaks to us in the way we need. He meets us where we are as we seek him. Sometimes it is in a whisper or sometimes through his living word. Sometimes he points and will ask us to step out in faith. I knew I was capable of moving forward with the path I was wanting to check in with God with thanks to God speaking to me on this particular day of digging into the word. A step out in faith was needed on my part and my heart filled with joy to feel his presence. You may be thinking check in with God on your future? YES! I love living according to God’s will and always want to follow what he has planned for me. So, I usually pray over big and even the small decisions before I make them to see if it’s something I should go after or not. A future blog post is to come on the journey I am currently taking, but a very big hint is that it is a gift that Romans talks about! :)

I am a strong believer of bible studies, journaling, and digging deep into God’s word. If you don’t already, I want to encourage you to get started on your path of finding out your gifts and digging into God’s word. Find out more about yourself. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What are you good at? Learn about WHO YOU ARE! I already know you are a child of God and so capable! Don’t ever let yourself think you aren’t loved or worthy! I want to leave you with a mental clarity prompt. Make a list of at least 25 things you’re skilled at. How does this unique combination of skills empower you in life? Go ahead and open up your phone and create a new note and make the list. Keep it handy so you can always remind yourself of what you are good at and that you too are CAPABLE!

All My Best,

XOXO
