Checking Mental Health Boxes

What are the life things that check your boxes? You know the things that help keep you sane in this beautiful, crazy life we live in. Are you a list maker? Or do you wish you were? Do you have a list of must dos to help your mental health be in the best shape it can be in?

I am not a professional in this area, but I am sharing what I have researched and what I have learned over time that mental health refers to. Mental health refers to emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how people think, feel, and act, and also helps determine how they handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Good mental health enhances life satisfaction, emotional balance, and the ability to cope with life’s challenges. I’ve mentioned in my "about me" blog post about resilience. Good mental health fosters resilience, helping individuals cope with stress, trauma, and adversity. Mental health is a fundamental aspect of our overall health and well-being. It is essential to lead a fulfilling and productive life, maintain positive relationships, and effectively cope with life’s challenges. Promoting mental health awareness, understanding, and support can lead to healthier individuals, families, and communities.

Since I have struggled in the area of mental health in the past, I come to you all with my own experiences. I always have my mental health in the best shape when I check the boxes of the following:

  • I am taking care of me in my favorite areas of beauty and wellness along with taking time for self-care too. (I feel like these all fit in one category.)

  • I am taking time to do creative things.

  • I have achievable goals set and my goal accompanies a to-do list to get there.

  • I am taking time daily to spend time with God and keeping up with my prayer life.

  • I am getting enough sleep.

  • My calendar isn’t super full, and I have free time on the weekends for personal development, spending time with my family or simply to rest.

  • My house is clean (minus the constant toy mess from my kids lol) and I am caught up on our house chores.

And of course, there are a few other things that help me, but these are a part of my top list.

I want to encourage you to make a check list of your own to recognize when your mental health is in its best shape. I have a free printable pdf for you to download and use to help you create that list. The link to download will be at the bottom of this blog. It is self-reflection prompts and I thoroughly enjoyed reading through the questions. I know it is a lot of questions so if you don’t have time to answer all of them at least skip around and answer most.

After you finish answering the prompt questions, make yourself a list of the top 5 things that keeps your mental health in check. You can make the list longer if you need, but 5 things are at least the goal to start with. Open up your notes on your phone and create your list as a note to keep your list there for safe keeping and so you can add things as you go!

I’ve come to realize my mental health being at its best is important so I can be the best version of myself. I set a goal about 2 years ago to find the best version of me and I feel like by blogging and digging into my why of Rediscovering Rhythm, I am on my way to discovering that best version of me. I want to ensure you all have a quick tool to help you to know when you are at your best self too. I hope the self-reflection prompts help you to dig deeper.

When thinking of every time I had to rediscover rhythm in my life, I always end up going back to things that have worked for me in the past. Along the way I have come to learn some things no longer work and sometimes I find new things that work. But my daily time with God is always, 100% one thing that works no matter the season I am in. I believe in the power of God and will always encourage others to have a relationship with him. Keeping up with my relationship with God helps me to thrive in most areas of my life.

I recently told someone new about my blog and how my goal was to help inspire people to rediscovering rhythm when bouncing back from a hardship or stressor season. I was asked on the spot if I could help this person right now as they are going through a hardship season filled with a lot of life stressors. It made me stop and think that I need to not only focus on the bouncing back and rediscovering season, but also how can I inspire people when they are stuck in the valley too. That’s when I quickly realized it is so important for each person to know when they are at their best! I hope this week’s blog inspires and encourages you all to take a deeper look into your mental health and discover what helps your rhythm flow well so when you are ever caught in a season of rediscovering rhythm due to causes out of your control, you will know what works to keep you grounded until you are out of the valley and back on the mountain top.

HUGS and All My Best,

Kim
